OMG its Karan Johar

Hey peeps, hows it going ... been a while... I suppose I've always said that I shall blog more and between work (new film) (TV Shoot), family, friends, family guy and boardwalk empire, one hardly gets the time ... Now I want to talk about Karan Johar here today. You might think why him and whats with the title of this blog. Well read away for a fun story. Normally I am very passive of things but this one relates to all of you. Hence here we go.

So I get a message on Instagram saying Karan Johar is following me... now I have lived in London, New York and Bombay (sue me , I am calling it that ) and being part of this work line, I have met him few times in parties etc and have a 100's of mutual friends so it wasn't a biggie as in its hard to resist my charm or good looks (OK now people who know me KNOW that I am being cheeky and sarcastic here)

So this Karan Johar sends me a message on Instagram message which I NEVER use saying hey asad so i replied hey back, He goes : I want to talk to you about a project (Now I never get excited ever and hence said) sure Karan , fire away. He said I am making a film called LOVE MERA HIT HIT  ... My mind boggled and big FFFFFFFUUCCCCKKKKK ALLLL came on screen just like those Bridget Jones movies, I mean seriously what a name NOT ....


So He said I would like you to be part of it .... I was like sure send me details , then I said aren't you on BBM as most of industry friends are and I know Karan is too ... so Karan goes, no I am on whats app. I LOL ed in my head and OK. He said give me your number. Now for accurate reasons, his instagram account had 1500 followers and he follows 47 people or so , all from Industry so it looked genuine but my Sherlock Holmes kicked in Desi style so I thought Beta Asad lets have some laugh .... so I gave him my spare sim card number and he what apps me from a DUBAI number saying hey asad, how you doing .... Now everyone take a moment. My film "7 welcome to London" was released in March 2012, 3 months before I could not eat or breathe cos of workload , promotion etc ... so many logistics, end meets etc ... so obviously two weeks before his film releases, India's biggest filmmaker is wooing me on Instagram .... yeah I know what you thinking like WTF ...

Karan goes: oh bro (now you know karan won't say that ) ... i have lost all my contact numbers on my phone and heading back to Bombay tonight but need to get my numbers back so which MUTUAL friends numbers do you have ... by this time I was rolling on floor and thanking my stars for this awesome entertainment by this FAKE KJ...

So I acted like a seedha saadha and said I don't know who we know in common , he said anyone ... So i mentioned a big producer friends name, and Karan replied saying yes send it ... so i sent a fake number , then he said which other actors and actresses do you have numbers for : ) ... I am literally friends with everyone from Bollywood and have contacts but acted naive and said I am from London and don't have them ;)  Karan said, but you are an Actor and you must have Bollywood contacts ... for which I replied I am having dinner now , chat soon ...

I get so much love from people when I meet them, in public, in events and generally. I consider myself a good human being and hence try my best to stay sane but you guys (the janta and public) need to be careful about fraudster etc and for it was worth , this was super funny and only If i had on my camera, would have been a super episode of punked.... video blog was in order ...

Respect your Audience - Bollywood VS Hollywood

Hello people, how we doing, ...Yes yes I know, its been like 6 months since I wrote my last Blog. I swear I always have these wonderful intentions of getting down to it but sometimes it doesn't materialise, I used to say S*** happens and then you lose track and need motivation. Anyways below is an account of random thoughts not in any particular order cos hey after all mind works in a funny way, so forgive me if I rumble but home truths can be rumbling :) sooooooo

I was in HMV in oxford street after filming one day and came across a DVD of a film which I thought for some bizarre reason was NOT released in UK cinemas. The film is called The son of no one and stars Channing Tatum, Al Pacino and Juliette Binoche. A list stars in a Hollywood film with a good director at helm and went straight to DVD, why on earth will that happen, well answer lies in respect. Before I go any further, here is a quick trailer of the film:

So Basically Hollywood executives are super smart when it comes to marketing, hence all the small films with unknowns does wonders at the Box office as they believe content is KING and also audience likes something different. Hence they spend millions marketing a film after " TEST SCREENINGS", that's a word BOLLYWOOD does not believe in cos if they ever did, I don't think any film will open well unless it was a GOOD film (no pun intended)

So back to the previous point,  a film staring Al Pacino and Channing Tatum has blockbuster written all over it but the audience response to test screenings was awful which meant studios cut their losses and syndication was done via satellite , VOD and DVDs. I swear Bollywood will never do that to a film starring for example Amitabh Bachchan and Imran Khan (Equivalent of above) cos it doesn't matter to them if film is well made or not, its all about business and selling, quite frankly I don't blame them, WE as an audience are to be blamed cos no matter what comes of the industry, we are so starved that we will go week after week to watch a film. Weeks after weeks, months after months have cemented the fact that we don't care about the stories etc, we want big star films and that's the way it is. Nothing wrong with that. I mean occasionally we have a vicky donor, paan singh tomar and even a kahani but there are a 100 films which are thrown at us every year and we go out in full force without knowing the content because we are a star driven industry.  

Question is will a Bollywood studio or producer accept the fact that he has made a bad film and not release with blazing guns, NO he won't cos he believes in you guys to make it a success regardless of how bad it is, That's the only thing he is super sure about, food for thought, Now you have to realise when a film like paranormal activity or the artist do well, as TEST SCREENING showed them that they had a HIT on their hand and an Al Pacino film went straight to DVD cos they cut their losses and didn't wanna get a bad name in the market. BOOM

I've heard people speak like this, hey I am off to the cinema to watch XYZ, oh yeah I know Ive heard its terrible but nothing else to watch and so I am gonna watch it , HELLO you are not helping the cause and only encouraging the bad film ...like WTF

Hollywood actors on other hand love a challenge which means someone like Leonardo DiCaprio playing a gay character, a mean antagonist all in the same year cos he wants to be driven by something new, something exciting. He doesn't care to play it safe cos he believes he will miss out in life if he doesn't challenge himself as an actor but purely he believes the audience will respect him all sorts.

These are some random thoughts a DVD in HMV brought out in me and made me analyse the market. Will a Bollywood ever release a film like Teri Meri Kahani on DVD because reports are NOT great (Ps I am not saying that they are , just in case someone gets a sad face). Anyway apart from all that, I am taking 7 Welcome to London to Cannes film festival. It will be a blast and I am really looking forward to the Sun and catching up with Industry friends, Also I am super duper excited about my new show on ZING "ROCK THE VIBE"

It will be kick ass and has loads of daily topics such as one of the daily topics is live in relationships or arrange marriage vs love marriage, is it acceptable for Asians in UK (who are running 20 years behind a metro city like Mumbai ), and guess what it will also give an opportunity to the fantastic UK Urban Asian musicians to showcase their talent via music videos etc. I can't wait

Decisions decisions

Ola People,




How we doing, you know I was just thinking and debating , well not in that order about this Blog and I know few of my closed friends are always kicking me about keeping it updated cos they think its a marketing tool blah blah, yes I know < I genuinely do believe that one has to share their thoughts and ideas or just general banter. There has been numerous occasions where I felt I need to write and share this, for whatever reason it worked or didn't work I have no idea. I know I am just blabbering right now, but hey what the heck, its my space and me time so take a hike if you don't like it.


Recently a lot of work developments have been happening. Its amazing that I have some real angelic people around me who put up with my tantrums, fits and my bad humour (OK this one is a joke) but kudos to those people who I am lucky to be associated with. 




I have worked on www.twitter.com/7wtlfilm for the last two and a half year. It's my personal pet project and I have gone through every emotion possible in the bloodline while making this feature.


NO my dad is a NOT a film producer, there was NO casting couch involved and NO we didn't have crores and crores to make this, but what we did have was a brilliant idea, perfect set of talented people and a belief. The belief to stop talking and doing it. That's it period. Everyone keeps talking and dissing one another. They don't do it themselves cos they are scared or don't have the guts to venture out but when someone else does, they are first to pick faults or talk ill about them. Oh yeah they are insecure and yes we do that but what the heck , one just needs to carry on working and mind one's own business... Jesus what the heck am I on about ... OK back to the movie


7 welcome to London is complete and ready to be released. I was hoping for a worldwide simultaneously but seems like It might release in a some big territories separately which makes sense for whatever reasons we have. so Guys in a nutshell, all I'm saying is that if you ever wanna do something from you heart and you have a tiny belief that you will succeed at it, just do it, don't worry about people putting you down or any obstacles , cos you know you will answer them in the best way.


Just got off SKYPE in chennai with my website designer, god bless him, he was up working on my stuff and here is a secret (I sang Kolaveri to him LOUDLY as a bribe for staying awake).... and oh yeah have a killer back pain but what the heck, one's gotta do what they gotta do


I just realised that I spoke about loads of random stuff in this blog but I hope you see the goodness in every word and keep loving one another.

WHATEVER

Hey people, hows it going ... I was reminded today by a friend about my blog, hence thought Yes why not, I wish there was a software for this blog on my phone and I can happily throw in a blog here and now.

Its been a hectic week work wise and can you bleeding believe it, its freaking August already, where has this year gone, please slow down 2011, still lot to be done ...

Watched a fantastic french thriller yesterday called THE BIG PICTURE, I always love these Anti HERO type films, a bit of grey never did anyone any harm. I have to give it to the FRENCH, they are bleeding good so are the SOUTH KOREANS ( Bless the BHATT CAMP ).

There is one film I have been dying to watch and that's INSHALLAH FOOTBALL, if someone can find me a DVD or a link, I would love it. Heard its stuck at the Censor Board, well wish them all the best.

Fasting has started and well just last week I decided to BULK up, well that goes down the drain and I shall just manage my athletic frame, lets see


Showed the official teaser trailer of 7 welcome to LONDON to people at ZEE and they went mental. I cant wait for this to be out and we can be one big happy family. Its always about the right timing and the best treatment and plannings. I have seen so many good films not being able to get good marketing etc.

I think I can summarise my entire experience and journey in this one film, hence this belongs to all of us and every single person will relate to this. Another show I am super excited about is BROADWALK EMPIRE, that is one hot shit show ... like NUCKY THOMPSON kicks ass ... Highly Recommended ...

I am directing a music video tomorrow and super excited as I will purely be behind the camera and am hoping the singer does well. I have some good ideas to execute.

Putting my team together soon for the release, last few months have been solo flying with technical team so quite excited.

On a random note, if anyone watches PRATIGYA, my dad loves Sajjan Singh and so do I , what an awesome talent, used to see him playing baddies right hand man and now he is a star, well done uncle ji

Two in a week, the world and Bollywood

Dear All,

I just thought to myself that I had written a Blog few days back and I remmebered a comment by a dear friend that I wrote 4 blogs this year , I laughed so hard , it was funny .. anyway how we doing today, all going well etc ...

This random thought just came in my head the other day, about the incidents that happened this year around the world, like Japan disaster, Innocent people being killed all around the world in wars, in the name of land, religion, conflicts, women and kids being raped and starving to death , there is so much hatred in this world and we read, discuss and continue our journeys in life, REASON is that everyone has their own problems and one needs focus on themseleves and I suppose that shall be one's goal to be a nice human being and take responsibility for their own actions. If everyone does that, it will be a stress free happy world.


Anyway lets talk some Bollywood guys, well where shall I start, Brand Aamir khan is rocking, one touch by him and it turns into Gold. well the guy has been slogging and working hard for nearly 27 years so he deserves it. In my last Blog I spoke about SRK's DON 2 and Tom Cruises MI 4 .... so i thought Don@ trailer was slick cos of SRK but seriously people Tom Cruise eats everyone alive in his trailer, it is totally fab and I had a Blood Rush. well we cant compare both industries, but we are great at copying stuff ... as De NIRO said , steal whatever you see when it comes to acting cos I promise you, they must have stolen it in the first place indeed.


on that lovely note , my next meeting is starting in 5 so will love ya and leave ya ...

Life in general

Hello people, 

I have been deciding to write a blog for a while and yes I did manage to have my free moments but never really got down to it, then perhaps I thought today I shall write and came up with this amazing topic and bummer its all forgotten now ... just finished some work email and I thought let me write a blog and guess what the first thing I need to type was the TITLE, like seriously if blogging wasnt harder, I have to think of a cool title to attract, I mean I am writing this blog cos my dear friend Divya pushed me as always and she said it will be great for your work and you need to connect. Slowly there will be no avenues left I swear, facebook, twitter, blogs, linkedin, what apps, bbm, skype, facetime. I mean what happened to the normal way of connecting and I don't mean text messaging either lol

Anyways I watched a stunning film today called "the tree of life" visually stunning and great performances but not everyones cuppa tea as its super slow but once you let yourself in, its amazing. (Do not watch it on my account), anyway it was a story about a family in suburban usa. anyway screw it , just google and figure it out for yourself

I have been working very hard lately on my own feature 7 welcome to LONDON, taken a break from Iconic Academy as I didnt get time, but been busy with my shows on ZING, Brits Bollywood.

Anyway I am quite anal (pardon my french) when it comes to perfection, so been cutting promotional material for our film and its just funny that everything has to be perfect and I have to push every cell in my brain and body to be happy and have that satisfying feeling, sometimes why cant i just say , fuck it , this is it ... 

took five minutes out and watched the trailer of DON2 , looks smashing but then ended up seeing the trailer of Mission Impossible 4 and oh my days , Hollywood smashed it like no man's business, I could not even compare the two, even though I will end up watching both.

Recently I attended the London Indian Film Festival and what a fabolous eventful 10 days they were, met three cool directors which included Abhinay Deo (Game and Delhi Belly) , Rituparno Ghosh (Raincoat etc) and Anurag Kashyup ( Dev D , Black Friday). 

I enjoyed talking to all of them on my show, Do check it out on my shows but one thing I leanrt from them was no matter what obstacles you come across, never give up.

I had a million problems, obstacles like everyone during the last two years while I made my film but I had a belief and I knew that one needs to be super strong and solid when it comes to that. I am really looking forward to the release of 7WTL. Guys do join the facebook page and twitter page for it and spread the word. Official Teaser trailers and few music videos are all done, we are just locking dates in all territories hence figuring out all but by means you will be thrilled soon Inshallah.

Blank Ideas and Thoughts

Jesus ... I am going to be honest with you, I had so many ideas and things I wanted to share with you but as soon as I came onto this page, I have gone blank and numb, that’s cos I am in a screening and I’m being cheeky as I have already seen the film and hence scribbling on this page, NOW please don’t ever complain about me not loving you, I certainly do ...

Soooooooooo my people, how we doing today ... Yes I know I have not written a blog for a while, even though I had every intention to write on a regular basis, I think I'll have to download the application on my phone and scribble my thoughts whenever they come to me. Life has been really hectic lately, been busy with a lot of work whether its working on 7 welcome to London or rest of the work which includes another feature I have acted in, plus my Zing TV shows.

I hope you have all enjoyed Kee Artist's single Jaaneman part 2 which features your own (moi) as a prop ... I always thought guys and gals are a prop in music videos depending on who is singing it but I loved the track and wish Kee all the best for the future.

I always thought blogs were about a persons own experience and thoughts, hence I won’t be talking about any inspiring quotes and words of wisdom, there is always facebook for that ha ha 

Also recently people have been talking about some footballers personal sex life or who will be the next person in Madame Tussands , I think all that is making the public chutiya's , and well public is public, they need something to talk about , but hey each to their own ....

Recently I was out for dinner with a few mates at a really nice Lebanese place in town and then the belly dancers did what they do best, Dancing and one of them came towards me and started dancing for me, which was very uncomfortable. Even though we had a distance between us and I was sitting down but it just made me realize that people might take people working in media and in front of camera too be really outgoing but deep down we are all normal people and hence shy in real life, but switch on the camera and see the magic ;)

One of my closest friends is down from Bombay on Thursday for the champions league final, Lucky B*****d, I might get him drunk and go in his place, lets see how that plan rolls up, Plus going to the house of commons on Tuesday for a dinner with the elected people, so will share my experience for sure.

Anyway people I have rats and mice jumping up and down in my sweet tummy so will head for dinner , some yummy turkish food cos I begin a new diet regime from tomorrow 8am, wish me well ...
